Das XML Web Services Discovery-Tools führt den Vorgang des Suchens bzw. Ermittelns eines oder mehrerer verwandter Dokumente aus, die verfügbare XML-Webdienste beschreiben. Durch das XML Web Services Discovery-Tool werden XML-Webdienstclients über die verfügbaren XML-Webdienste unter einem bestimmten URL sowie über ihre Verwendung informiert. Das XML Web Services Discovery-Tool funktioniert unter der Voraussetzung, dass Sie bereits den URL für ein Discovery-Dokument abgerufen haben (beispielsweise über einen Verzeichnisdienst wie http://uddi.microsoft.com), jedoch noch nicht über Einzelheiten zu den angebotenen XML-Webdiensten verfügen. Mit dem XML Web Services Discovery-Tool können Sie die Einzelheiten über die XML-Webdienste ermitteln, die in einem DiscoveryDocument unter einem bestimmten URL aufgelistet sind.
Ein XML-Webdienstclient startet das XML Web Services Discovery-Tool durch Bereitstellen eines URL für die Discover-Methode oder die DiscoverAny-Methode. In der Regel verweist dieser URL auf ein Discovery-Dokument, das wiederum auf Dokumente verweist, die einen oder mehrere XML-Webdienste beschreiben, die der References-Eigenschaft hinzugefügt wurden. An diesem Punkt wird lediglich dieses Dokument gedownloadet und überprüft, ob es auf gültige Informationen über XML-Webdienste verweist. Die im Dokument enthaltenen Verweise werden jedoch zu diesem Zeitpunkt nicht überprüft. Stattdessen werden sie der References-Eigenschaft hinzugefügt. Um sicherzustellen, dass die Verweise gültig sind, rufen Sie die ResolveAll-Methode oder die ResolveOneLevel-Methode auf, die der Documents-Eigenschaft Dokumente hinzufügen, für die gültige Verweise vorhanden sind. Wenn ein Client die Discoveryergebnisse auf einem Datenträger speichern möchte, rufen Sie dann die WriteAll-Methode auf.
Für den Fall, dass der programmgesteuerte Zugriff auf das XML Web Services Discovery-Tool nicht erforderlich ist, ist im Lieferumfang von Microsoft .NET Framework SDK das Web Services Discovery-Tool (Disco.exe) enthalten, mit dem XML-Webdienste über eine Eingabeaufforderung ermittelt werden können.
