If Microsoft Word and other related Microsoft applications are not working properly, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

    1. Update Windows and Office: Ensure that both your Windows operating system and Microsoft Office are up to date. You can check for updates in the Windows settings and through the Office application itself.
    2. Disable Hardware Acceleration: If you are experiencing performance issues, consider disabling hardware acceleration in Office applications. To do this:
      • Open any Office application, go to File > Options.
      • In the Advanced pane, check the box for Disable hardware graphics acceleration and click OK.
    3. Check Graphics Driver: If you have an Intel graphics adapter, ensure that you have the latest driver version (26.20.100.7262 or later). You can update the driver through the Device Manager.
    4. Start Word in Safe Mode: You can start Word in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. To do this, press Windows + R, type winword /a, and press Enter.
    5. Repair Office Installation: You can also try repairing your Office installation through the Control Panel. Go to Programs and Features, select Microsoft Office, and choose the repair option.
    6. Delete Word Data Registry Subkey: If problems persist, you might want to delete the Word Data registry subkey. Make sure to back up the registry before making changes. The path for Word 2016 or later is:
      • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Word\Data
    7. Replace Normal.dotm Template: If Word is still not functioning correctly, consider replacing the Normal.dotm template file. You can rename the existing file to OldNormal.dotm and restart Word.
    8. Check Add-ins: Disable any COM add-ins that may be causing issues. You can do this by deleting the registry keys for COM add-ins.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve issues with Microsoft Word and other Office applications.

    Hello @Satwik Shetty,

Thank you for reaching out to the Q&A forum!  To better assist you, could you please confirm the following details:

1.When you say, “Microsoft applications are not working,” could you clarify what exactly happens? For example, do the apps fail to open, crash, or show an error message?

2.If there is any error message, could you please share the exact text or a screenshot?

Note: I will help you blur or hide any personal information if needed.

3.I noticed you tagged Education. Is your account provided by your school or organization (not a personal Outlook.com or Hotmail account), is it correct?

4.Have you recently installed any updates for Microsoft 365 or your operating system?

In the meantime, as Q&A Assistance mentioned above, you can try exit all Office applications and then running an Online Repair for Microsoft Office:

    • You select Apps in setting => Installed apps => scroll down to find Office.
    • You click on it, then select Modify.

    User's image

    • When prompted by User Account Control (UAC), you need to click Yes.
    • In the window that appears, you can select Quick Repair first. If the issue persists, you choose Online Repair for a deeper fix.

    Install using click-to-run

Note: For Online Repair, this will reinstall Office and may take a few minutes, but it won’t affect your documents or settings.

Please understand that our initial response may not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to identify the root cause and find a solution.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
