Hello everyone,

I’m experiencing a recurring issue with my Windows laptop and would appreciate any insight.

My laptop suddenly shuts down without any warning during normal use (sometimes gaming, sometimes light tasks). After restarting, Event Viewer consistently logs Kernel-Power Event ID 41 (63).

What I’ve confirmed so far: Shutdown is instant (no BSOD, no error message). Issue has occurred multiple times. I have checked all hardware components, including the power supply/charger and battery, and they all appear to be in normal condition. I have tested different power outlets. Windows sometimes struggles to boot normally after the shutdown and may require several restarts. I dont know whats wrong with my laptop because i had check all my hardware on system diagnostic and it say normal System information: OS:Windows 11 CPU:  I3 1215u GPU: Intel Uhd RAM: 8 Gb dual channel I’m trying to identify the root cause before doing a full Windows reinstall. Thank you for your time. Yuk

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue with your laptop shutting down unexpectedly and logging Event ID 41 in the Event Viewer. Since you've already checked the hardware components and confirmed they are functioning normally, here are some additional troubleshooting steps you can consider:

    1. Power Supply Issues: Even if the power supply appears normal, ensure it is providing sufficient wattage for your system, especially during high-demand tasks like gaming. If possible, test with a different power adapter.
    2. Overheating: Check if your laptop is overheating, as thermal issues can cause sudden shutdowns. Ensure that the cooling vents are not blocked and that the fans are functioning properly.
    3. Memory Issues: Run a memory diagnostic tool to check for any issues with your RAM. Sometimes, faulty RAM can lead to unexpected shutdowns.
    4. Event ID 41 Analysis: Since Event ID 41 indicates that the system rebooted without a clean shutdown, it might be useful to check for any other related events in the Event Viewer that occurred around the same time as the shutdowns. Look for critical errors or warnings that might provide more context.
    5. Driver Issues: Ensure that all your drivers, especially for the graphics card and chipset, are up to date. Outdated or corrupt drivers can lead to system instability.
    6. Windows Settings: Check your power settings in Windows. Sometimes, settings related to sleep or hibernation can cause unexpected behavior.
    7. Check for Malware: Run a full system scan to rule out any malware that could be causing instability.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you might consider backing up your data and performing a clean installation of Windows as a last resort. This can help eliminate any software-related issues that might be causing the shutdowns.

Kernel-Power Event ID 41 (63) errors usually indicate a hardware problem especially if your laptop is instantly shutting down.

    1

If you have any XMP profile set on your RAM in BIOS, disable that or of you have changed any settings on your processor, disable that.

    2

Open the old Control Panel (not the settings app)

At the top of the old Control Panel, set view to icons

    Open Power Options

On the left, click 'Choose what the power buttons do'

At the top right, click 'Change settings that are currently unavailable'

Under 'Shutdown settings' disable 'Turn on fast startup'

Save that and close Control Panel

Then, restart your laptop and wait to test if the system is stable.
