I've googled and it says that monteserrat font can be embedded as a custom font in powerpoint (desktop app on a Mac) but when I select the fonts in slide master it doesn't give me the option to add a custom font. I've also tried going through preferences and embedding the font but it say it can't be embedded? I've downloaded the font from google fonts and added it into font book on my Mac so not sure why it's not working? I;ve restarted Mac and restarted powerpoint. Any ideas?

To embed the Montserrat font in PowerPoint on a Mac, you need to ensure that the font is licensed for embedding. Unfortunately, many fonts downloaded from Google Fonts, including Montserrat, may not support embedding due to licensing restrictions. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and check your options:

    1. Font License: Verify that the Montserrat font you downloaded allows embedding. Some fonts have restrictions that prevent them from being embedded in documents.
    2. Embedding Fonts in PowerPoint: In PowerPoint, you can typically embed fonts by going to Preferences > Save and checking the option to "Embed fonts in the file." If this option is grayed out or unavailable, it indicates that the font cannot be embedded.
    3. Using Slide Master: When using the Slide Master, ensure that you have selected the correct font and that it is installed properly in your Font Book. If the font does not appear in the list, it may not be supported by PowerPoint.
    4. Restart PowerPoint and Mac: Since you've already restarted both, ensure that the font is active in Font Book and try reinstalling it if necessary.

If you continue to experience issues, you may need to consider using a different font that is confirmed to support embedding or check if there are alternative versions of Montserrat that allow embedding.

While font embedding can solve certain problems, fonts that are embedded in a template or presentation make the file size permanently larger. Since Montserrat is a free font, there's no cost involved in simply installing it to every desktop using your presentation.

If you're trying to use the variable format font Montserrat-VariableFont_wght.ttf, that is not supported in Office. Instead, look inside the static folder that was downloaded and install the fonts named Montserrat-Regular.ttf, etc.
