I've up dated printer settings. Followed instructions on setting up doc for booklet. Tried MS Word template and setting up from scratch. Word does a few things based on which template I use or create from scratch. Tried warm boot, cold book, safe mode, restart and shut down. Here are example issues with word and printing.

  • Prints title page, 2 sided, and has correct format in word doc but pages on back side of title page prints accurately. I have tried several word and other templates Example, 2 pieces of paper and ..., sides - 1) prints title page and last page correctly 2) pg 1 blank, 2 prints pg 5 3)page 3 and 4 blank 5) page 5 should be page 2, pg 6 blank
  • Nav pain shows doc view correctly based on format but doc view shows duplicate pages. When dup removed, both pages are removed. Again, print set up correctly, word doc format and print settings are correct
  • When I set up from scratch following word help docs and other types of help, the formatting is correct. But nothing prints correctly.
  • I can't move 1 page of doc to new location, adding new page but can't copy/page, and adding page break doesn't make a difference.

AT this point, do I need to uninstall word 365 and then reinstall it?

It sounds like you're experiencing multiple issues with printing and document formatting in Microsoft Word. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problems:

    1. Check Document Formatting: Ensure that the document is set up correctly for booklet printing. Go to Page Layout > Margins > Custom Margins and check the settings for booklet printing.
    2. Print Preview: Before printing, use the Print Preview feature to see how the document will look when printed. This can help identify any formatting issues.
    3. Change Printer Drivers: Sometimes, issues can arise from the printer drivers. Try changing the printer driver to a different one, such as the Microsoft XPS Document Writer, to see if that resolves the printing issues. You can do this by going to Devices and Printers, adding a new printer, and selecting the appropriate driver.
    4. Repair Document: If you can open the document but it behaves unexpectedly, try using the Open and Repair option. In Word, go to File > Open, select the document, click the dropdown on the Open button, and choose Open and Repair.
    5. Reset Word Settings: If the issues persist, consider resetting Word to its default settings. This can be done by modifying the registry, but be sure to back it up first. You can follow the instructions for resetting user options and registry settings in Word.
    6. Reinstall Word: If none of the above steps work, you may need to uninstall and then reinstall Microsoft Word to ensure that all components are functioning correctly.

These steps should help you troubleshoot the issues you're facing with document views and printing in Word. If the problems continue, it might be beneficial to check for any updates for Microsoft Office as well.

It sounds like Word, and your printer aren’t working together on the booklet layout, which is why the pages look fine in the document but come out in the wrong order or with blanks.

This usually happens when Word’s “Book Fold” settings and the printer’s duplex options don’t match.

The easiest fix is to let Word handle the booklet and keep the printer in basic duplex mode: in Word, go to Layout > Margins and set Multiple Pages to Book Fold, check the paper size, and make sure your total page count is a multiple of four.

Then, when you print, turn off any booklet or scaling options in the printer settings, set two-sided printing to “flip on short edge,” and print at 100% without “fit to page.”

If you still see duplicates in the Navigation Pane, check for extra section breaks or repeated headings and remove them.

A quick test is to export the file as a PDF and print it with the same duplex setting, if that works, the printer driver was overriding Word.

If not, update or reinstall the printer driver.

One thing I’d like to confirm: does the print preview in Word show the correct page order before you hit print, or is it already wrong there?

    Regards,
    Aron
