Remote desktop and shared folder credentials do not work after installing windows 11 pro 23H2

I formatted and installed windows 11 pro 23h2 on a computer two days ago.

From another computer with windows 11 pro 23h2, I cannot access the remote desktop. It tells me that the credentials did not work. If I try several times it blocks for a few minutes.

From another computer with windows 11 pro 23h2, I cannot access the shared folders. Ask for username and password. When entering username and password, the username or password is not correct. Never before had it asked me for a username and password to access shared folders.

From the computer on which I have formatted and installed Windows, I can access the remote desktop and shared folders on other computers. Other computers have Windows 11 Pro updated to 23h2.

How could I access the remote desktop and shared folders? I need to have access.

I would like to add one simple issue and solution I have not found one the web.

If the "remote" is a new machine or a newly formatted machine - ensure that you have logged on to it using your username and password at least once before trying to RDP into it. From what can gather, Windows caches something on the "remote" when you log in once. After that your credentials work from the machine you are RDP-ing from. Since Windows 11 Pro allows/sets the option to only allow local logins with Windows Hello, in my case with a new Windows laptop I had never logged into the machine with my password. Once I realized that, it was easy.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

Access issues with Microsoft accounts may be related to permission settings or authentication. Firstly, ensure that the Microsoft account has appropriate access permissions in the permissions settings for shared folders and remote desktops. You may need to check the permission settings for shared folders and remote desktops to ensure that your Microsoft account is correctly added to the list of allowed users.

Secondly, ensure that the credentials of your Microsoft account are correct and there are no authentication related issues. Try using a Microsoft account on another Windows 11 Pro 23h2 computer to access and determine if the issue is specific to your account.

In addition, you can also try logging into your Microsoft account again and further checking the security settings of your Microsoft account to ensure that your credentials are correctly recognized and verified.

Hope this answer can help you well.

    Best regards,

    Jill Zhou

Under "Accounts -> Sign-in options" there is a section called "Additional settings".

In this section there is an option "For improved security, only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device (Recommended)" that I needed to disable to be able to use my RDP client.

Kind of makes sense since my RDP client (Windows app on MacOS) only has username and password as an option for credentials.

    I'm on Windows 11 Pro (24H2).
