Cannot migrate a .NET IIS web application with Azure Migrate

I'm using Azure Migrate to discover, assess and migrate a number of applications from a VSphere based on-prem datacenter to Azure. For web applications, I would like to migrate them to Azure App Services where possible.

I'm trying to do a replication to prepare for migration, selecting ASP.NET web apps to migrate, Azure App Service code to migrate to and VMWare vSphere as virtualization type. However, the dropdown for "select assessment" is empty, even though I have previously completed an assessment. What could the reason be for this? I have full read/write access to assessments, so I don't think access rights are the issue.

Any help is much appreciated

    Hi @Anders Hermann Pedersen ,

Thanks for your time on the call!

As discussed during our call, the issue is related to the assessment report being in a "Ready with Conditions" or "Outdated" state.

Please perform the following steps on the server that is in a fully "Ready" state (i.e., without any conditions):

Restart the DRA Agent and Gateway Service.

Once the services have been restarted, restart the server.

    1. Wait for 15 minute to allow the changes to reflect and ensure that the services are up and running.

If the issue persists after these steps, we will need to redeploy the OVA and re-run the assessment as discussed.

    Hello Anders Hermann Pedersen,

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

Assessment Completion: Double-check that the assessment for the web apps is indeed completed and valid. Sometimes, if changes were made to the web apps or if the assessment hasn’t been updated, the previously completed assessments may not show.

Sync the Assessment: As mentioned by Vinod, ensure that your Azure Migrate project is updated to reflect the latest assessments. You can do this by going to your Azure Migrate project and verifying the status of the web app discovery and assessment agent. If it’s not connected, try to reconnect it and perform a manual refresh.

Check Connection Status: Ensure that the web app discovery and assessment agent is functioning correctly. If the agent is not connected to the Azure portal, you'll need to troubleshoot the connectivity issues.

Review Job Logs: Look for any warnings or errors in the job logs associated with the Azure Migrate project. You can find these logs by navigating to Servers, databases, and web apps > Migration tools > Jobs. This might provide additional context on what’s going wrong when trying to select the assessment.

    1. Different Assessment Tools: If you are facing persistent issues with Azure Migrate, try using the stand-alone App Service Migration tool for a different migration approach.

If these steps don't help, could you clarify a few things to get a better sense of the situation?

    Follow-Up Questions:

    1. Have you noticed any discrepancies in the Azure Migrate project settings, or have any recent changes been made to the infrastructure that could affect the assessments?
    2. Can you confirm if the assessment completed without any errors or warnings the last time you checked?
    3. Are you able to see the assessments from the "Servers" or "Databases" tabs, or is the issue strictly with the "Web Apps" tab?
    4. Has the assessment ever shown in the dropdown previously, or is this a brand-new issue?
    5. Are you using a specific version of PowerShell on your servers?

Feel free to share any other details that might help us troubleshoot better. Hopefully, this info helps get the migration back on track!
