New Keyword Planner

Yesterday the wonderful old keyword planner tool was yanked with no notice (at least none that I saw) and replaced with an exact copy of Google's tool. One of the reasons I came to Bing was because Google did the same thing - yank the old tool and not leave us the users the option of which one to use.

...but that isn't the biggest issue for us. We are gearing up for the holidays ad season and doing really heavy research right now. You all left out the most important metric for us - clicks!! I now have to use two different tools (Keyword Planner then filter on Campaign Planner) to get the same info we used to get in one tool. Why??

Can someone please add click data to the new keyword planner tool? Why in God's name would you remove such critical functionality? Who cares if a keyword has 100,000 views. It's clicks that matter most to us and should matter most to anyone trying to sell something on the web.

Thank you for your consideration,

Steven Kamis

    Hi, Steven

Thanks for reaching out. In addition to what our ad support has provided to you, there is also another way for you to get the clicks. You can add your interested ad groups and keywords to estimates page, and get the weekly estimated clicks by iterating on the bids and budgets. And the results are tailored to your account and the system has considered your targeting setting and competition among keywords. These would be more insightful than just knowing the clicks on the whole marketplace.

If you have any additional question or feedback to the new Keyword Planner, pls feel free to let us know. We really value and appreciate your feedback.

    Hi Steven,

Thank you for contacting Bing Ads Support. I understand that the new Keyword planner tool may have been a surprise for our Customers. Let's see the positive side you'll get ad group and keyword suggestions with historical statistics, like monthly search volume trends and data, competition, and suggested minimum bid. You can also change the graph's data by selecting Search volume trends, Mobile trends, Breakdown by device, or Breakdown by location from the dropdown menu above the graph. You'll also see two tabs: A tab for suggested keywords and a tab for suggested ad groups to organize those keywords. Be sure to look at both. After reviewing the recommended ad group and keyword suggestions, you can Add selected to estimates or Export the suggestions.

By far one of the best tool's to use for your research would be Bing Ads Intelligence. That is still one of my favorite tools and very dependable with data research.

    Hi Priscilla,

Thank you for the quick response. All that positive stuff is great, but without having click information available the tool has in effect been rendered useless for our purposes as a product driven new company.

I have to make sure every penny of our new ad campaigns this holiday season count. Just because a keyword term has high traffic does not mean people are actually going to click. Click data is critical.

That being said, I have to agree with you about the biz intelligence tool. As an ex-Microsoft Enterprise Architect myself focused on BI, this thing is one of the coolest tools I've seen in years and appears to be the best source for what I need.

I try to see the good in all situations so although we lost one good tool, we have found another even better one. Thank you for that!

Very cool Jessica! That estimate button was right under my nose and I missed it.

Unfortunately when I just tried to search "mortgage calculator" (the highest clicks we found in the original tool) there was no click data after selecting keywords.

I tried sorting on the click column and still nothing. At 48,229 clicks per your other data, I would think there should be at least something on the weekly clicks!

Also, being weekly we would then have to extrapolate to get the monthly data so while I could see this being a really useful tool for last minute analysis, it doesn't seem to be working for me.

At this point the BI tool is amazing so we're just going to use it as our main research tool and then at the very end once the correct keywords for the new campaign have been selected, I'll run those keywords through the other tools as a sanity check.

    Thank you both so much!

    Steve

    Hi, Steve

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Did you set a bid to get the click estimation data? You should get the estimated click through the following steps. If not, could you pls provide your account XID to me? I will reproduce it to see whether it's the system reason

    1. Click the "Get performance and cost estimates" tab in the entry page
    2. Input "mortgage calculator"
    3. Click "Get estimates"
    4. You will be presented by a bid graph. Input a bid on the top of the page or click the bid graph to set a bid
    5. You will see the weekly estimated impr., clicks, and other metrics in the table.
