Hi,

I am looking into getting a vertical dock for my surface book 2 with an integrated surface dock in it which the laptop plugs into via the surface connect cable to allow it to connect to my other monitor. If I wanted to undock the laptop so I could write on it on my desk is there a way I could still attach it to the surface dock and hence the other monitor i.e. a usb-c cable from the laptop to the dock, or is the only way for the surface book 2 to integrate with the surface dock via the surface connect cable?

    Hello James Poole1,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community. I understand how important this set-up for you.

But apparently, the only way to automatically connect to the accessories and peripherals connected to the Dock is by connecting the Surface Connect cable on the dock to your Surface device. That means, yes, in order for Surface device to integrate with the Dock is via the Surface Connect cable.

I hope this clarifies your concern.
