Does anyone else feel the hinge grinding when opening/closing the Duo? I started to feel it a few weeks after owning the device. However, if I open it slowly, I don't feel a grind at all.
I'm not even sure it's fair to call it a grind, because whatever is going on inside the hinge doesn't seem to affect usage. In fact, the device still folds smoothly, just with a weird feel to it.
Just a random thought... If the hinge is having problems, I wonder if that affects the hinge angle sensor, which then leads to oddball behavior like both screens being on when in single screen mode, or one screen turning on before the other.
I'm trying to determine if my hinge is actually defective or just normal wear and tear. I was well aware of the Duo's software issues before buying the device, but sometimes it's hard to separate the software from hardware issues with this thing!

I made plans this morning to send it in for repairs. Thanks.
From my understanding, this is normal. Plenty of Surface Duo users on Reddit have reported this same exact issue, even myself. It happens all the time and it doesn't effect the stiffness of the hinge. But it doesn't feel good for some reason when this happens, and this is my second device. I got rid of the first one because it did the same exact thing. This second one also does it and that's when I started asking. Friction from the gears and strings. I hope they can work on that feeling with the second iteration because I don't like the feeling myself.
Oh man, you're a day late and a dollar short haha. Out of fear of the grind getting worse, I shipped it back to Microsoft yesterday. Good to know that the same is likely going to happen with the second one. And maybe, if I'm lucky, the replacement will work even better, like having both screens turn on at the same time when I unfold it.
Well. I still have that issue where both screens wont come on. Only one will depending on the angle of how you open it. Yeah the creeking is very annoying. And almost everyone has said that it happens to their device. When mine was brand new, that didnt happen. But overtime of opening and closing it started happening and I can expect that. But I don't like how it feels. I really hope on the Duo 2 that they fix that and not allow that to happen because the feeling of it is very annoying.
