Surface Book will not Detect HP USB Printer connected to Doc

On my Surface book where I have Microsoft's Surface Dock, I have a new HP M130fn printer connected to the Surface Doc via a USB to printer cable (A B type), and the Surface does not detect a connected USB printer.  Even if I download HP's software for this printer, it still will not detect a printer hooked up via USB connection.  Anyone else have problems connecting USB printers to their Surface book?  I have to use a USB printer due to security through our VPN, so other options are out.

You can find solutions to common printer problems here. Or try to unplug the dock for 60 seconds and plug the dock back in. Let us know if it works.

    Hi Kim,

Aside from downloading its software, what are the troubleshooting steps that you have done so far? When you said that it will not detect a printer, did you receive any error messages? Let us know so we can get started.

    Regards.

It's the Windows 10 Operating System on the Surface book and when the printer is plugged either into the dock or directly into the USB port on the Surface book it does not auto detect a new device.
