Hello Daniel Jones,
The phrase "Managed by your organization" indicates that some settings for Edge have been applied from outside of the browser. It's quite possible for policies to be set by a different program on the computer, e.g. a security suite (e.g. Webroot), a privacy-enhancing tool (e.g. O&O Shutup10), a browser extension (e.g. WebAdvisor) or by malware. They can also be set by the user personally, so the phrase managed by your organization can be really misleading.
You can go to edge://policy to see all the policies applied to your browser. Normally, the policies are unharmful and you should not worry about it but if you see a suspicious policy, you can follow these steps to remove the policy.
- Identify the Policy
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Go to
edge://policy/. - Note the Policy Name (e.g.,
DeveloperToolsAvailability,ExtensionInstallForcelist, etc.).
- Open the Registry Editor
- Press
Win + R, typeregedit, and press Enter. - If prompted by UAC, click Yes.
- Navigate to the Policy Location
Depending on how the policy was applied, check these paths:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Policies\Microsoft\Edge
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Policies\Microsoft\Edge
- Delete the Specific Policy
- In the right pane, find the exact policy name (e.g.,
ExtensionInstallForcelist). - Right-click it and select Delete.
- Confirm the deletion.
Do not delete the entire
Edgekey unless you want to remove all policies.
- Restart Edge or Your PC
- Restart Microsoft Edge or your computer to apply the change.
- Revisit
edge://policy/to confirm the policy is gone.
