Surface GO colors displaying inaccurately

Hi all,

I've had the Surface GO for about a year now and I've noticed that the display coloration seems to be a bit off lately. In particular there seems to be too much pink values in my reds (red displays pinkish more often, orange is dulled, purple is pinkish no matter how "blue" I set it to be, pink is bright magenta). As an artist this has been a problem and I've tried calibrating to no avail, as there is no pink setting to adjust - just red. My other colors display fine, it just seems to have inaccuracies with colors that would have a red value.

The only thing I can think that may have attributed to this was I had to do a factory reset on my device in November due to my old type cover being faulty (I thought it was the device's problem, as the keyboard still lit up when plugged in). Or maybe a Windows update, who knows.

I used both Windows color calibration as well as the Intel Graphics Command Center in my testing, but neither worked. I've also attempted reinstalling the Intel drivers (uninstall and reboot) but that hasn't helped either. I'd like to keep this device as I've really been enjoying it, but this has gotten very annoying. Is there any way I can fix this? Thanks.

Issue solved. I feel silly now, but solved nonetheless.

I had only been comparing the accuracy between two screens on this problem (my computer being the other one, as I use it more often) and I suddenly realized the possibility that it could be my computer's monitor that has the display issues. With some more testing by borrowing friend's laptops, looking at my phone, and anything else I could think of, I concluded that it's the computer that's inaccurate suddenly. My monitor seems to have lost some of its vividness (especially on the pink side of things), not the opposite with the Surface. Since I stare at the computer more though, I think it tricked my brain into thinking the Surface had the issue when I picked it up again after the holidays.

The monitor is getting up on years, so I should have thought of that beforehand, but hey, problem solved. It wasn't the Surface after all :D Gonna go get a new monitor, haha! Thanks for being so quick to try to help, I appreciate the customer service here!

    Hi, PolterGengar!

Thanks for reaching Microsoft Community. We appreciate the time you have given here and letting us know about your Surface Go's display issue. We apologize for the troubles you have to go through. I know how important it is for you as an artist, that is why you posted here regarding the colors.

If ever the steps to troubleshoot the issue has been exhausted, you might want to check the page on How to get service for Surface or you can Contact Microsoft Support for replacement options.

By the way, may I know which of the three forms of reset did you perform on the device?

    Fresh Start:

Fresh Start is the least intrusive form of reset.

You will not lose any files or personal information.

You will need to reinstall desktop programs.

Fresh Start also ensures you have has all available updates once complete.

If there is an issue with Windows itself, the issue may still occur after a Fresh Start.

    Reset from Within Windows:

This option uses the devices Hard Drive Partition to reimage the device.

This option can delete personal data (You can choose Keep my files or Remove everything).

You will need to reinstall desktop apps.

You will need to run updates upon completion.

If there is an issue with the partition, the issue may still occur after the reset.

    USB Recovery:

This option reimages the entire device, including the partition on the hard drive.

It is the most complete form of reset.

You will need to back up your personal data.

You will need to reinstall desktop apps. You will need to run updates after completion.

If the issue occurs after a reset, then the root cause is very likely hardware related.

You will need to download and set up a recovery image on a USB drive. Open USB recovery link to get started. The information on what size and type of drive is provided at the destination page.

Doing a reset will not result to this. If I may ask, what is the Windows version and OS Build of your device? Kindly press Windows/Start and type winver to locate it.

Did you go to Display Settings > scroll down to Advanced display settings> Display adapter properties for Display 1 > Color Managementtab when you tried to calibrate the display?

Did you delete the profiles listed in the Devices tab?

Please update us so we can further assist you.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Janette_Z,

I did the Reset from Within Windows, opting to keep my personal files when I did. I did also go to the Color Management page then to the "Calibrate display" button to do so.

According to winver I am on version 1909, OS Build 18363.535 on Windows 10 Home.

As for the profiles under Devices, if you are referring to the video drivers, then yes, that's what I did it from. I went to Device manager, then display adapters, and uninstalled the drivers for the Intel HD Graphics 615. After a reboot they reinstalled themselves, but there was no change.
