Should the touch screen near the volume button activate volume?

When I touch the screen right next to the volume button, it activates the volume. A volume control bar appears on the screen. If I keep pressing the screen it raises the volume. I am not touching the volume bar icon on the screen. It does not seem like it should do that? Also it only adds volume. It does not decrease.

    1. Please go to: https://support.microsoft.com/contactus# !
    2. Type in surface duo
    3. Press get help
    4. On the bottom click "contact support" or "sign in to contact support"
    5. From the drop lists select the items that apply and then you get a list of available options to get a support agent to contact you depending on your selected issue.
