I would like my child to use the Microsoft Edge browser on their iPhone while still having Screen Time features enabled for native iOS app monitoring protection (specifically the ability to Not Allow App Store installs/uninstall). I was only allowing my child to use the Edge browser (disabled Safari) and was using MS 'Family Safety' app to monitor MS Edge browser usage (across all devices - iPhone and PC).

However, now when I try to launch Edge on my child's iPhone, I receive the following message:

"Certain apps, features , or services can't be seen or used when restrictions are on. To use this app, turn Restrictions off."

Edge browser was working just fine on the child iPhone in tandem with Screen Time restrictions enabled, up until a few weeks ago (Sept 2022).

I have tried the following setting configurations without success:

Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Content Restrictions (enabled) > Web Content (Unrestricted Access)

Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Content Restrictions (enabled) > Web Content (Limit Adult Websites)

Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Content Restrictions (enabled) > Web Content (Allowed Websites Only)

The following works for allowing me to use the Edge browser, but is not successful because I lose the ability to restrict app content.

Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Content Restrictions (disabled)

How can I use Edge browser on child device while still having native iOS Screen Time Content Restrictions (enabled) so I can not allow app store installs/uninstalls - as was the case a few weeks ago?

Is this a new setting in the Edge app that is now colliding with iOS restrictions?

Can it be worked around? Or can Microsoft release an update to the Edge app to work in tandem with native iOS Screen Time.

    Hi TKGC1,

    I've recently been trying to troubleshoot this issue for myself.

    Do you have a restriction for Apps based on age rating?

    On the device that I was testing, an App age rating of 12+ disallowed the use of Edge (and Chrome) but changing it to 17+ allowed the app to work.

    This is not suitable for the device that I am trying to get Edge working on so I will have to not use Edge for now - obviously I will leave this up to you to decide what is appropriate for yourself.

    Hi Rory!

    That was it!!!

    After setting the App Age Rating to 17+, it worked as expected. I should have thought to try that, but didn't.

    While having that rating to 17+ would be problematic if I decided to also allow my child to install apps from the app store on their own, it won't be in my case - since I have the setting for Installing/Deleting apps set to "Don't Allow", so they don't even see the "App Store" app on their device.

    P.S. to the Microsoft Edge team: I think it would be worthwhile to investigate and allow Edge to work with a lower rating if possible so parents can take full advantage of the features.
