I tried to reproduce your query on my Android device and I was able to use the Read Aloud feature normally. One of the things that you can try is to make sure the latest version of Microsoft Edge is installed, i.e. 45.05.4.5036.
However, you may also want to try re-installing the browser and check if the feature is working fine.
