Hello,

I’m experiencing a frustrating issue with Microsoft Edge Version 129.0.2792.65 (Official build) (x86_64) on my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) running macOS Monterey Version 12.7.6. Whenever my mouse hovers over a text field, a large black box appears with the following information:

This is quite annoying, and I suspect that something in the edge://edge-urls/ link may have been modified, although I could be wrong.

Could you please provide guidance on how to resolve this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Hi Welcome to Microsoft community. I understand how frustrating it can be to deal with display issues in Microsoft Edge on macOS. The black box that appears when hovering over text fields can be quite intrusive. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue: 1. Clear Cache and CookiesSometimes, corrupted cache or cookies can cause display issues. Here’s how to clear them:

    • Open Microsoft Edge.
    • Click on the three dots (menu) in the upper right corner, and select Settings.
    • Go to Privacy, search, and services.
    • Under Clear browsing data, click on Choose what to clear.
    • Select Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files, then click Clear now.
    • Disclaimer: Your browser automatically saves temporary internet files to help pages load faster. Clearing this cache will sometimes fix website issues. Please back up all your personal files first, such as Favorites, to ensure you do not lose data.

    2. Disable ExtensionsExtensions can sometimes interfere with how web pages are displayed. Try disabling them:

    • Click on the three dots (menu) and go to Extensions.
    • Disable all extensions and check if the issue persists. If it resolves the issue, enable them one by one to identify the culprit.

    3. Update Microsoft EdgeEnsure that you are using the latest version of Edge, as updates often contain issue fixes:

    • Click on the three dots (menu), go to Help and feedback, and select About Microsoft Edge.
    • Edge will automatically check for updates and install them if available.

    4. Reset Edge SettingsResetting Edge can help resolve issues caused by misconfigured settings:

    • Go to Settings.
    • Scroll down to Reset settings and click on Restore settings to their default values.
    • Confirm by clicking Reset.

    5. Check for macOS UpdatesSometimes, compatibility issues can arise from running an outdated version of macOS. Check for updates:

    • Click on the Apple menu and select System Preferences.
    • Choose Software Update and install any available updates.

    6. Create a New User ProfileIf the issue persists, try creating a new user profile in Edge:

    • Click on your profile icon in the upper right corner and select Add profile.
    • Follow the prompts to create a new profile and check if the issue occurs there.

    7. Reinstall Microsoft EdgeIf none of the above solutions work, consider reinstalling Edge:

    • Go to Applications in Finder, locate Microsoft Edge, and drag it to the Trash.
    • Download the latest version from the official Microsoft Edge website and install it again.

    8. Contact Microsoft Support If the issue continues after trying these steps, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance. I hope these steps help resolve the issue with Microsoft Edge on your iMac. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, feel free to ask!Best regardsDerrick Qian | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
