Disable Autoplay in Google Chrome: Answered

Hello.

I am aware that the following question is not Microsoft-related but, given the popularity of Google Chrome, it should be a very simple one to answer.

By default, website videos are enabled to play and when I go into GC, I see options for 'Camera' and 'Microphone' but no option for Video Auto-Play. Either I am missing a detail or the AP option does not exist.

Someone suggested a 3rd party extension, which I am not interested in.

Can someone enlighten me?

No, you haven't missed anything. This option is available in other browsers like Edge so it's unclear why it was removed, though.

Hi Shopper1, I am Paulo and I'd like to help.

There used to be a setting in site permissions "Media Autoplay" where you could set it to allow, limit, or block. However, the Chrome team decided to get rid of it in favor of the Sound autoplay option. In this case, you really have to rely on extensions if you want to disable video autoplay in Chrome.

    Paulo-Thanks for the prompt response.

I thought that 'maybe' I missed a detail but, clearly, the 'Autoplay' setting is no longer available within the Site Settings of GC.
