My surface book 2 has suddenly stopped automatically connecting to the internet on startup. When I go to Device Manger I can see a warning ! sign on the Marvell AVASTAR adapter. I have to uninstall and then restart in order for the surface book to find the internet. What can I do to stop this happening? Thanks

Hello! It could be a driver issue or a faulty Wi-Fi card on your laptop. Perform a clean install of the Wi-Fi driver.

    1. Download the Wi-Fi driver from the manufacturer's official website.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=56261

    • Click on Download

NOTE: This is not a Microsoft website, but it appears to provide accurate and safe information. Be wary of ads that may advertise products that are often classified as PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Products). Be sure to research any product advertised on the site before you decide to download and install it.

    1. Disconnect from the internet > Restart your computer.
    2. Search for "Device Manager" in the search bar > Click on the icon > Expand the "Network Adapters" tab.
    3. Right-click on the first Wi-Fi device (usually with the Brand/Model, WLAN, or Wireless name) > Select "Uninstall device" > Check "Try to remove the driver for this device" (if there is an option) > Confirm.
    4. Restart the computer.
    5. Install the downloaded Wi-Fi Driver when Windows starts > After installing the driver, restart the PC.
    6. Connect to the internet > See if the problem persists.

Download the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit. https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9nf1mr6c60zf?hl=en-us&gl=US - when your SB2 is in the "bad" state, run the toolkit and see what it reports and post it here. What version of Windows are you using? Run "winver" and reply with the version number.

This is an issue happening to nearly everyone with an SB2 these days. It's a driver issue and there is no updated driver. I have to disable and reenable the driver almost every day.

Try the fix posted on this thread, which disables modern standby and allows you to disable "Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power":
