I solved the mystery. Apparently Teams was updated so rolling back to the earlier version that last worked solved the problem. I guess these apps auto update.
MS Teams app for Android POST and CHAT Image or Failed to download/save image file
Yesterday I was able to view images in .PNG, .JPG etc in Chat or under MS Team Post. All of a sudden, today myself and a few colleagues are unable to do so. What's ironic is that if I log in under another user account, I was able to view and download images in Chat or just a simple POST in Teams. I have cleared cache, clear data, clear Temp files, clear app data, reset database, uninstall, reinstall, reboot, and log back in with no avail. I grant all permissions contacts, camera, pictures, etc. For now I have the work around in terms of go to FILE tab and download the image and was able to view it then; however, "failed to download file" if I simply click on the image and select download or save. I am on the latest Android and latest teams version 1415/1.0.0.2023153801/0824. One of my colleagues who log in for the 1st time to MS Team on Android within our organization and managed to see all images and able to download. Obviously it's a folder permission for the image but I tried storage\emulated\android or pictures/data and it's fine. I am out of options...what changes since last night? There were no Android OS update or MS Teams Update.

2023-09-20T13:20:47+00:00 I am seeing this issue on two separate Android devices that displayed pics like PNG/JPG/etc. fine before and now can't see any pics, just the gray box. I tried clear cache/clear data, reset database, sign out totally and sign in again, uninstall/reinstall, give TEAMS more permissions, etc. I can't see any images except the Emojis in Teams. Oddly, embedded videos display just fine. The desktop app is working perfectly. This is frustrating!!

2023-12-29T07:52:01+00:00 Yes what I did was used the previous version of teams or the last version that the image would load. I have a few users in the office using Android with the same issues and that solves the problem. It's unfortunate that you have to downgrade your app version to one or two previous version to work. Good luck my friend.
