New Teams - can no longer add the member list from another Team when creating a new Team from scratch.

Hello,

In the old version of Teams I was able to create a new Team from scratch and start typing another existing Team name to include the members from that Team on the new Team. I am not able to do that in the new version. You can create a Team based on another Team, however it only shows so many Teams and sometimes the one I need to duplicate doesn't show, and I haven't figured out how to search to duplicate. Has anyone found a way to do this? Thank you!

    Hello Laura,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community. My name is Seun and I'm happy to help.

I am sorry that duplicating a Microsoft Teams team in the new version is not directly available, however i can suggest some workarounds.

Open Microsoft Teams. Click on Teams in the left sidebar. Next, click on Join or create a team and then select the Add people to team button at the bottom of your teams list. Click Create Team. In the creation window, select Create from…, then choose Team. You’ll see a list of teams that you currently own. Choose the team you want to copy. Name your new team, add a description, edit the team privacy, or edit the team’s data classification if your organization has set this up. Use the check boxes to pick which parts of the team you want to copy: channels, tabs, settings, apps, and even members. When you’re done, click Create.

I know this may not the perfect steps you are looking for, but they can be helpful. You can use the feedback link below to report the issue to the Microsoft Developer Team at:

Thank you for your patience and understanding,

    Thanks Seun!

That is what I am doing currently. However, the screen where it shows the groups to pick from does not show all groups, and is sometimes missing the one that I need. You also cannot create a copy based on an existing team that was also a copy. Because we have member changes pretty regularly, if I copy an old team that was not already a copy than I have to go back and figure out what the differences are in the member group. Does that make sense?

    Hi Laura,

    Thanks for your response,

Yes, I understand your concerns with the the limitation of not being able to directly search or see all existing teams to copy from, as well as the inability to copy a team that was itself previously copied, which can make the duplication process cumbersome, especially when team memberships change frequently.

Unfortunately, there is currently no straightforward method to accomplish what you need within the new version of Microsoft Teams. You can use the feedback link below to report the issue to the Microsoft Developer Team at: https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/ and they will put features like this into consideration for future updates.

Thank you for your patience and understanding,

    Best Regards, Seun
