    Hello Haydn C,

I am Ibhadighi and I would happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

I understand that you're encountering an issue where you can't download or open an Excel file in Microsoft Teams, and you're seeing the error message "something went wrong." This can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

    1. Check File Type and Size: Verify that the Excel file is in a supported format (e.g., .xlsx) and not corrupted. Additionally, check if the file size is reasonable and not excessively large, as very large files can sometimes encounter download issues.
    2. Browser and App Versions: Ensure that you are using the latest version of Microsoft Teams, both on the web and in the app. Outdated versions can sometimes cause compatibility issues.
    3. Clear Cache and Cookies: Clear your browser's cache and cookies. This can help resolve issues related to cached data. If you're using the desktop app, try signing out and signing back in.
    4. Try a Different Browser or Device: If you're using a web browser, try a different browser or device to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to your current setup.
    5. Network Connection: Ensure that your internet connection is stable. A slow or intermittent connection can disrupt file downloads. Try accessing Teams from a different network, if possible.
    6. Disable Browser Extensions: Some browser extensions can interfere with the functionality of web applications. Try disabling browser extensions one by one to see if any of them are causing the problem.
    7. Anti-virus and Firewall: Check if your anti-virus software or firewall settings are blocking the download. Temporarily disabling them (if safe to do so) can help identify if they are the cause.
    8. Download from SharePoint: If the file is hosted on SharePoint or OneDrive, you can try accessing it directly from those platforms and downloading it from there.
    9. File Permissions: Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to access and download the file. If it's a shared file, check with the owner or administrator to confirm your access rights.
    10. Try a Different File: To rule out if the issue is with a specific file, try downloading other files from Teams. If you can download other files successfully, the problem may be related to that particular Excel file.
    11. Contact Support: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's advisable to contact your organization's IT support for further assistance. They can investigate the problem and provide a solution tailored to your specific situation.

Remember to be cautious when making changes to your system's settings or disabling security features. Always follow best practices for security and consult with your organization's IT department if you're in a corporate or institutional environment.

    I hope this helps.

    Best regards, Ibhadighi.
