Once I have reviewed a student's work and provided feedback in Assignments, does returning it overwrite the work they may have done on that document after submitting?

I am looking to provide feedback to my students using assessment checkpoints. However, I am concerned that returning a student's work, which they may have edited since submitting for the original checkpoint, might overwrite new work they've done. Does Teams return old versions of the assessment if the students are still working on the same file after submitting?

    Hi William B,

Thank you for reaching out. My name is Leo, a user just like you. I'd be happy to help you with your concern.

Microsoft Teams does not automatically return old versions of a file to students after they have submitted it for an assessment checkpoint. When a student submits a file, it is typically considered a final submission, and the version of the file at that time is stored for assessment purposes.

If you are concerned about students potentially losing their new work while you are providing feedback, I recommend instructing your students to save a copy of their work before submitting it for assessment. This way, they can retain the latest version for reference and continue working on it separately. The other way is that you may use to access the version history feature for files stored in SharePoint or OneDrive. You and your students can access this version history to view and restore previous versions of a file. However, this feature may not be directly integrated into the Teams interface, so you might need to access it through SharePoint or OneDrive.

I hope I provided a helpful information regarding your concern! Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Best Regards,

    Leo
