How can I add an existing OneNote Class Notebook to a new Microsoft Team (Class)?

We'll be creating one subject OneNote Class Notebook that students will be using for all 4 years at our high school. Unfortunately, there is no option of adding existing OneNote Class Notebook with new Microsoft Team (Class). Microsoft Teams/OneNote, please make this feature available as soon as possible. We don't want students to have multiple notebooks every semester, but we want to create multiple Microsoft Teams per semester since that semester's work will go into one section.

    Dear Wan Park,

Thank you for reaching out regarding your need to integrate or reuse an existing OneNote Class Notebook in a new Microsoft Teams class. While Microsoft currently does not support directly assigning an existing notebook to multiple Teams, we would like to share two practical methods that can help you achieve your goal:

Option 1: Set Up a New Notebook from Existing Content (Microsoft’s Official Recommendation)

This is the officially supported method for reusing teaching content from previous notebooks.

    1. In the new Team, go to the Class Notebook tab.
    2. When prompted to set up the notebook, choose “From existing notebook content” instead of starting from scratch.
    3. Select the old notebook and the sections you want to copy (e.g., Content Library, Teacher-Only section).
    4. A new notebook will be created for the Team, containing the selected content from the old notebook.

Option 2: Add the Existing Notebook as a Tab in the New Team

This method allows you to display the old notebook within the new Team for easy access, even though it won’t be the official Class Notebook.

    1. Ensure the existing notebook is stored on SharePoint or OneDrive (if it came from a previous Team, it’s already there).
    2. In the new Team, click the “+” icon to add a new tab.
    3. Choose OneNote or Website, then paste the link to the existing notebook.
    4. A new tab will appear in the Team, displaying the contents of the old notebook.
