When creating the Teams channel it created the extra sharepoint channel. Can we merge the two and is it best to create from Teams first going forward?

    Dear Martin Reid2

    Good day!

Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are glad to assist!

Based on your description, I understand you concern with creating a Teams channel.

If you are creating a Teams channel, it will automatically create a SharePoint site.

A SharePoint site is a web site in SharePoint where you can create web pages and store and collaborate on files. SharePoint sites can be used independently and are also used by Teams for file storage (called Teams-connected sites). A Teams-connected site is created automatically whenever you create a team.

The SharePoint site that is created when you create a private or shared channel in a team. Only owners and members of the private or shared channel have access to this site.

For more information about Teams channel and SharePoint site, you can refer to Teams and SharePoint integration - SharePoint in Microsoft 365 | Microsoft Learn

Create a standard, private, or shared channel in Microsoft Teams - Microsoft Support.

Thanks for your precious time and your understanding would be highly appreciated. Have a nice day!

    Best regards,

    Thank you.
And if you have already created a Sharepoint site and now wish to add it to a Teams channel, is this possible?

    Dear Martin Reid2

Thanks for your feedback! Very sorry for late reply!

Based on your further description, it doesn't seem feasible to add an existing SharePoint site to a Teams channel.

But if you have already created a SharePoint site, you can create a new Teams by that site. You can refer to Create a Microsoft Team from SharePoint - Microsoft Support.

If the information is useful for you, and if you don't mind, could you kindly submit your feedback and vote. You could help any other community users who might be facing a similar scenario to easily find this thread/post. Thank you so much!

We appreciate your time and kind cooperation. For other questions, feel free to add your post in the Microsoft Community team.

    Sincerely,
