Microsoft Teams - Download a folder as a zip file

Hello everybody,

I received a question from an end user about downloading a folder from within Microsoft Teams.

When clicking "Download" on a folder, the user wants the ZIP file to retain its original folder name.

As per my knowledge, when downloading a folder the system automatically generates a ZIP file and prompts me to save the file with file name "OneDrive_2021-10-15".

I was surprised to see another user experiencing different behavior. For this second user, Teams actually prompted to save the folder as its original name i.e. Quotes.zip.

I was trying to find an answer, but could not find any explanation.

Does someone know a little bit more about this behavior?

Many thanks.

    Hi jvdlinden91

My name is Daniel. I will be more than happy to assist you.

I'm wondering, did the use download files via the chat tab on the left menu? or the files tab on the channel?

Hi Daniel, thanks for your prompt reply.

The users used the files tab on the teams channel.

As per my test OneDrive follow the name of the original file, For example, I trying to download the recording folder and it gives me file name "recording.zip"

As per my experience, the following format "OneDrive_2021-10-15" applies when you download files from OneDrive personal, MS Team itself uses OneDrive for business and they are not the same.

I have been testing too. My findings are interesting.

The behavior differs between two teams:

    Here it downloads as OneDrive_%date%

Here it downloads as folder name

Both are just regularly created folders.

    I'm clueless.

Upon double-checking this issue again, OneDrive using the following format "OneDrive_2021-10-15" for the folder you have created on your own. (see screenshot below)

As per my previous test, the default folders such as the Recording folder (which was created by the system) will follow the following format "Recording.zip".
