I pay for Microsoft Office 365 through an Apple App store subscription but cannot activate. Have tried for hours! Unsuccessfully.

I am currently paying for a Microsoft Office subscription at the Apple App Store but when I try to use Word or PowerPoint, etc. it says I have to activate. When I try to do that, it says it sees my purchase but can't activate. I'm caught in an endless loop. Please help!
