    Dear Mohamed Sobhi Kazmouz,

Good day!! Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

May I know if you meet any error message when you cannot edit file in Office desktop app on Mac? If yes, could you share a screenshot of the error?

If the error message says your account can only view document but it doesn't allow editing on Mac. I would like to suggest you go to check if your account has the license called The latest desktop version of Office.

You can check it by signing in Microsoft 365 Subscriptions page via this link https://portal.office.com/account/?ref=MeControl#subscriptions check if you have the license, as shown below:

    Image

    • If you don't have this license, please contact the Microsoft 365 Administrator in your school/organization, because they have the necessary permission to assign license to you. Reference: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support
    • If you confirm that you have that license, you may try following steps for further troubleshooting:

Use the License Removal tool to remove Office license files from Mac and then activate Office apps again:

    1. Download the license removal tool.

    1. Open the .pkg file from your Mac's Downloads folder.
    2. Select Continue and follow the prompts in the setup wizard.
    3. When you're ready to complete the license removal, select Install. You may need to enter your Mac's local admin account password.

After the tool successfully removes licenses, select Close.

    1. Reboot your Mac. Now open any Office app and sign in to activate with the email account associated with your Microsoft 365 for Mac license. Check if you can edit files.

If my understanding of the scenario is not consistent with yours, feel free to point it out.

In the meanwhile, may I know if the issue happens when you try to edit a specific file in Office desktop app on Mac? Can you edit other files?

Could you please provide some screenshots of the issue? Please kindly provide the requested information to let us work further.

Thanks for your time and cooperation! Hope you have a nice day!!

    Best Regards,

    Tina

Some schools pay for students to have downloaded applications on their desktops; most pay for a less-expensive version that only uses the online apps. Do you know which your school is using? Try contacting your school's IT department.

Please navigate to your account's subscription page (https://portal.office.com/account/#subscriptions) to check whether you have a license for the latest desktop version of Office:

There is a 4-year deep discount subscription available for some students as well.

Even if you have free use at your current school, you may want to take advantage of this while you still have an .edu email. It will last after your student status ends.

    Dear Tina,

Thank you very much for your detailed response and your willingness to assist me.

I have carefully followed all the steps you suggested, including verifying my license, using the License Removal Tool, reinstalling Office, and restarting my Mac. Unfortunately, the issue persists—I am still unable to edit documents in the Office desktop apps on my Mac.

To help clarify the problem, I have attached screenshots and a short video showing exactly what happens when I try to open and edit a file. I hope this additional information will assist in identifying the root cause.

Please let me know if there’s anything else I can try or if further details are needed.

Thank you again for your time and support.

    Best regards,

    Mohamed Sobhi Kazmouz
