How many previous chat entries does the Microsoft Teams app display in the sidebar?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to understand how Microsoft Teams handles chat history visibility in the sidebar (left panel). Currently, I can see chat entries ranging from 11th June to 27th July, which is a span of 46 days.

Is there a specific limit (by number of chats or days) that Teams uses to display past chat entries in the sidebar? Or does it depend on usage patterns, frequency, or pinned chats?

Any insights or official documentation links would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

    Hi Vivek Makwana,

As far as I know, Microsoft Teams doesn’t enforce a strict limit on the number of chat entries or days shown in the sidebar. Instead, visibility is based on recent activity, pinned chats (up to 15), and usage patterns. Older or inactive chats may drop off the list but are still accessible via search. There’s no official cap by date or number of chats.

For more details, you can refer to Microsoft’s official documentation on Teams limits and specifications: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/limits-specifications-teams.

    Hope this helps!
