Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller Keep Failing

After reading several recommendations and finding none of them resolve the issue, I asked Copilot. This walked me through steps to Roll Back the driver. It instructed me to download three files to my C drive for the system to manual download. After completing this, the issue still persists. Every day multiple times a day, the driver fails to work. In lieu of rebooting every single time, as per the Copilot recommendation, I need to go through a series of steps to have the drive search a file I saved in my c drive browse the computer, then let me select the folder.

This is completely asinine. I'm seeing this is an issue going back years. Is there a solution to address an issue Microsoft has been aware of for some time. If someone can guide me on how to fix the issue, it would be appreciated.

    Hi James,

    Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft community! I know it's a pain when your Wireless-AC Network Controller acts up, so let's see if we can get it sorted.

    Here are some quick things to try: First, use the Windows Troubleshooter:

    Go to Settings, Update, Security, and Troubleshoot

    Click Additional troubleshooters and then find the one for your network stuff.

    Just follow the steps it gives you.

    See if a recent update caused the problem:

    Disable Power Management: Open Device Manager, right-click your Marvell adapter, and hit Properties.

    Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power in the Power Management tab.

    Check the UEFI Settings: Shut down your Surface. Hold the Volume Up button and quickly press the Power button. Go to the Devices area in the UEFI menu and check the Wi-Fi status. Try turning it off and then on again after a few seconds.

    Change Wi-Fi Security Settings:

    Go into your router's settings and change the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi security from WPA3 to WPA2.

    The problem is specifically related to the latest Avastar Marvell driver released by Microsoft, version 15.68.17022.122

    I was able to find a previous version of the driver 15.68.17021.121 that does seem to work, but I don't know what issues 121 may cause.

    You can download a .cab of the previous drivers from the following website.

    Choose the 121 driver, or a previous driver. Download the cab. Double click on the cab to open it, and move the files out of the cab.

    Open Device manager and choose to update the driver, with files on your disk. Then choose the file folder where you extracted these files.

    NOTE: the driver IS signed by microsoft, so you won't get any errors. This is an official previous release, from a microsoft website.

    In addition to complaining to Microsoft, please go to the Marvell website and click, "Talk to us" and fill out the form.
