For certain contacts in Microsoft Teams, I cannot turn off status notifications as indicated in the attached screenshot.

I tried turning off by right clicking the contact under Chat and selecting ‘Turn off notifications’. I also went to Settings > Notifications and activity > Manage Status notifications and turning off there, but they do not turn off. Getting repeated notifications is getting annoying please help.

    Hi @Paul Brooks,

    Welcome to the Q&A Community

I’m here to assist your problem.

Could you please provide more information to me for a better support:

    • You are using Classic Teams or New Teams ?
    • You are using Business account or Personal Account ?
    • You are using Teams on Desktop App or Web app ?
    • What is your operating system (like Windows or Mac) ?

In the meantime, I recommend you a basic disable for New Teams:

    New Teams

    • Click on the 3 dots at the top right of the Teams app – Setting
    • Click to Notifications and activity
    • Toggle on Mute all notifications or if you want to choose another option, you can choose notifications for desktop, mobile, or both.

Next, you can try to clear cached for Teams:  Refer to Clear Team Cached

Simplify the paths, use environment variables.

    New

    C:\Users%username%\AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe

    1. Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows logo key + R
    2. In the Run dialog box, copy/paste:
    • New Teams C:\Users%username%\AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    • Delete all files and folders in the directory.
    • Restart Teams.

    Some workaround for this issue:

    • Mute the contact: Right-click in Chat > Mute
    • Set your status to Do not disturb and manage priority access in Settings > Privacy.

If still stuck, uninstall Classic Teams (via Settings > Apps on Windows) and reinstall from microsoft.com/teams (select classic if available), or switch to New Teams.

Contact support: In Teams > Feedback > Report a problem, or via admin.microsoft.com if you're an admin

    Hello @Paul Brookes

I understand that you are unable to remove user by trying below two options 1) Chat and selecting ‘Turn off notifications’. I also went to Settings >2) Notifications and activity > Manage Status notifications and turning off there, but they do not turn off.

Solution: Please go to People app from teams app search shown below

    User's image

Open people app and search for the users whom you want to remove.

    User's image

Selected the user and delete from the list. Now user will get removed from the notifications list permanently. I tried this and was able to fix this issue.
