Hi, I have failed to reach Microsoft - I had someone on chat but they sent me to the phone system and that failed because it asks me to login to Azure which is not a product I am using. The unknown charge or subsciption is not linked to the microsoft account I have gone into. I have microsoft accounts via organisations but there shouldn't be any charge to me for those. I have filled out a form to get into another potential account that used to be provided to me as a not for profit organisation - and perhaps they decided to start charging? I have no idea. The bank would not investigate. The bank's only suggestion was to cancel my card altogether. There is nothing in the emails that I use from Microsoft or Azure with any invoice or any subscription that I took out. Amounts are in AUD $43 and $42.29. Ref Msft *E0700x68e3. Amounts have been taken in the last 2 months.

Does anyone know what this could be for, and how I can reach Microsoft to find out and to stop future payments?

    Hi Irene Irene,

Thanks for the update, and I’m glad to hear your charity admin was able to identify the server and license that caused the charges and cancel them. hopefully that resolves the unexpected charges going forward.

Regarding how Microsoft charged your new card even though the old one on file had expired, many banks automatically update card details for recurring subscriptions using a system called “account updater.” This means merchants like Microsoft may still receive the new card details without you providing them directly.

I completely understand your frustration with Microsoft’s support process it can feel like a loop when you’re asked to sign in to an account you don’t actually have access to. If, by chance, charges continue,

    • Ask the charity admin to remove your card from the payment methods in the Azure portal under Cost Management + Billing → Payment methods.
    • Also request that they cancel the subscription entirely, not just stop the server, to ensure no future billing occurs. As I mentioned in above response, please do follow below steps to prevent future charges
    • In the Azure portal, go to Help + support → New support request, select Issue type: Billing → Billing management → Invoice or payment questions, provide the transaction reference (e.g., Msft *E0700x68e3), dates, and amounts, and note that an active Azure subscription is not required to submit the request.
    • Go to the Microsoft Support page → Get tech support: self-help services Get tech support: self-help services → select Chat with helpdesk. When the virtual agent starts, type your issue and then request to be connected to a live agent so you can explain the billing charge directly.

In the meantime, I recommend keeping an eye on your next billing cycle to confirm the charges have stopped.

you can also refer the documentation to analyze future unexpected payments by creating anomaly alert: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/cost-management-billing/understand/analyze-unexpected-charges

If anything shows up again, your bank can also block future recurring payments from Microsoft as a safeguard.
