Surface Book 3 – Autodesk Revit crashes instantly when touching the screen

We’ve encountered a strange and repeatable issue on two separate Surface Book 3 devices when running Autodesk Revit 2023 and 2024

Problem:

  • Revit runs normally when using the keyboard, trackpad, or mouse.

The moment you touch the screen with your finger (or use touch input), the program freezes and crashes instantly.

Observed on:

Surface Book 3, Intel i7, NVIDIA GTX graphics (both units have similar specs)

Windows 11 Pro (fully updated)

All firmware and drivers are up to date via Windows Update and the Surface app

Troubleshooting tried so far:

Updated GPU drivers (Intel + NVIDIA)

  • Verified latest Windows and firmware updates installed

Tested with different projects (same result)

Reproduced issue on two separate Surface Book 3s

Works fine on non-Surface hardware (Dell Precision laptop)

Questions:

Has anyone else experienced this specific crash behaviour?

  1. Is there a known compatibility issue between Surface Book 3’s and Revit?

Are there any recommended driver rollbacks, firmware updates, or settings tweaks that could help?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

There is no official documentation related to this -neither Microsoft nor, Autodesk.

Have you checked Event Viewer error log? It will show crash details to identify whether GPU, input, or firmware modules are failing.

Submit a crash report to Autodesk support so they can investigate whether this is a reproducible bug.
