How to change Team's automatic downloading of image files as .jfif?

I don't know why Teams auto downloads all my images as .jfif - which is not considered a standard file format yet. (As evidenced by the fact that Microsoft's own products, like Excell and Word, DON'T accept .jfif file types)

Where is the setting to change Teams so it downloads images as the file type they were SENT as?

No work-arounds please, that's crazy, I just want to send files as they are through the professional-collaboration service built by the most "business oriented" tech company.

    Hi @Nathan Kelly

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum support.

To assist you better, could you help me with the following:

    • Does the issue persist in the web version of Teams (via browser) or only in the desktop app?
    • Are you using a personal, work or school account with Teams?
    • Are you using classic Teams or the new Teams to download images?

In the meantime, you can try the following steps and see if you can download the image as desired file type:

Open Teams desktop app > select the three dots next to your profile > Settings  In Settings > select Files and links > Toggle on the Always ask where to save download file

Download an image in Teams > You will be prompted to choose a location to save your image > change the image type (for example image.png) > save  User's image

Kindly let me know your responses to the above questions, and feel free to share any other details you think might help us resolve the issue. I look forward to your reply and am here to assist further. Please understand that our initial response may not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

    Look forward for your response.
