Hi,

GIFs are loading correctly in Teams. Gif's are not displaying. I have cleared the cache of the teams. Same issue with Web browser. We have tried to change the network, but same issue. *We have turned off and turned on the optional connected experiences for Gifs. Not with me my colleagues also facing the same issue.

Is there is any outage is going on for GIFS? Please assist ASAP.

Regards,

Riz

    Hi @Shaik Rizwana

Thank you for reaching out and sharing the details regarding the issue with GIFs not displaying in Microsoft Teams.

We’re currently aware of a service degradation that has impacted the display of GIFs across Teams desktop, web, and mobile platforms. This issue is linked to a recent update that unintentionally disabled the Optional Connected Experiences (OCE) setting, which powers features like Giphy.

Even if GIFs are enabled in your Teams messaging policy, the OCE setting must also be turned on via the Cloud Policy portal. Microsoft has identified this as the root cause and provided a resolution.

If your account does not have Admin permissions, please contact your IT department or whoever manages your Microsoft 365 environment to perform these steps on your behalf.

If you're an IT admin and have access to policy management, please try these steps to fix this issue:

    1. Go to Microsoft 365 Apps admin center
    2. Navigate to: Customization → Policy Management
    3. Create or edit the relevant policy User's image
    4. Choose a suitable scope > Next  User's image
    5. Search for: “Allow the use of additional optional connected experiences in Office” > Press Enter or click on Search icon
    6. Select the policy from the results  User's image
    7. Set this policy to Enabled  User's image
    8. Scope it to All Users or the appropriate group (If this is a newly created policy, you've already set in the initial step.)
    9. Save and publish the policy

Once applied, please allow 15–30 minutes for the changes to propagate. After that, restarting Teams or signing out and back in should restore GIF functionality.

If you need any further guidance or any question, feel free to let me know.

    Best regards,

    Hi @Shaik Rizwana

Thank you for your prompt response and for testing the initial steps in your Test Tenant.

We understand that the issue with GIFs not displaying in Microsoft Teams persists despite enabling the Optional Connected Experiences (OCE) setting. We appreciate your patience and would like to offer some additional steps to help resolve this.

Method 1. Enable Optional Connected Experiences in Teams.

According to feedback from our website visitors, the first and most functional solution to solve the problem of not opening GIF images from Giphy or other cloud services, is to turn on the "Optional Connected Experiences" feature in Teams Privacy settings.

    1. Click on the three dots at the top-right corner of the app window and select Settings from the list.
    2. Go to Privacy section and enable the Optional Connected Experiences  User's image

Method 2. Fix Teams GIFs/Images not working by restarting MS Teams.

Sometimes simply shutting down completely and restarting Microsoft Teams can fix the problem you are experiencing. So,

    1. Log-out from your Teams Account.  2. Right-click on Teams icon on the Taskbar and Quit MS Teams. (This will quickly clear the cache as well)  3. Open Teams again and check if the problem has been fixed.*

Note: Some users have also reported that when they open Microsoft Teams with administrator rights, the problem does not occur. (Right-click on Microsoft Teams > Run as administrator).

Method 3. Clear Microsoft Teams Cache.

If you have been using Microsoft Teams for a long time, there is a chance that the application has accumulated a lot of cache data. This cache data can sometimes cause problems with the app, such as GIFs or images not working properly. In such a case, the solution is to clear the cache of the Microsoft Teams app manually.

    1. Log out from Microsoft Teams.
    2. Right-click at Start menu and open Task Manager.  User's image
    3. At Processes tab, find the Microsoft Teams process, right-click on it, and select End task.  User's image
    4. Close Task Manager and press the Windows + R keys to launch the Run command window.
    5. Type the following address and hit the Enter key  to navigate to the Microsoft Teams folder. : %appdata%\Microsoft\teams  User's image
    6. Under the Teams folder, open one-by-one the following folders and delete the contents inside theme:
      • blob_storage
      • Cache
      • Databases
      • GPUCache
      • IndexedDB
      • tmp  User's image
    7. When done, reboot your system, launch the Teams app, and log in with your account.
    8. Check if the problem persists and if yes, continue to next method.

Method 4. Update Microsoft Teams App.

If you unable to send or view GIF's and Images in Teams, then it's possible that the problem is with the Microsoft Teams app itself. In this case, the best solution is to update the app to the latest version.

To update Microsoft Teams on Windows, follow these steps:

    1. Click on the three dots at the top-right corner > Setting
    2. Click on the three dots at the top-right corner of the app window and select the Check for updates option.
    3. If you're using Teams as part of Microsoft 365 managed by your organization, updates may be controlled by your IT department.

Please feel free to reach out again if you have any further questions or need additional guidance.

    Best regards,

Thanks for the response @Hani-N. I appreciate your help. Whatever you have mentioned above, I have done all the things. And we have re-installed teams app as well. But got the same. I have noticed the issue is not with one org, different org's also facing the same issue. I think it might be a global outage..

    Regards,

    Riz
