Link existing Loop Workspace to Team tab

When adding the Loop app as a Teams tab, you get prompted to configure a new Loop Workspace that is then linked to the team and becomes accessible through the Workspace tab in Teams.

We are however struggling with what is essentially a two-part issue:

  1. After the app has been configured, if a user accesses the tab settings (which is essentially empty) and then accidentally clicks "Save", the current Workspace gets de-linked and app prompts the user to create a new Workspace.
  2. If that ever happens, or if the tab is removed and re-added, there doesn't seem to be an obvious way to select an already existing Workspace; it's only possible to create a new one.

So, is it possible to link an existing Workspace when setting up the Loop app rather than creating a new one? Also, (while probably unlikely) is it possible to somehow prevent users from accessing the Loop settings panel, because I foresee that this might otherwise become a common problem where even experienced power users accidentally breaks their team's Loop workspace tab (simply because how incredibly easy it was to do).

If it's easy enough to just re-link the original workspace, then that would of course be less of an issue.

Note that we're currently in the process of migrating to a Microsoft environment, so excuse me if I didn't get the terminology completely right.

    Hi @Daniel Pervan

    Thanks for your response.

The reason you're seeing multiple workspaces is because that's currently how Loop Workspaces are designed to function.

    • Each time you remove and re-add the Loop tab, Teams spins up a new channel-managed workspace because the re-link feature isn’t fully deployed yet.
    • The Loop web app will show all these workspaces under the same Microsoft 365 Group, which can be confusing.

I recommend a few workarounds to help streamline your workflow while we wait for further updates from Microsoft.

    1. Website Tab Method
      • Open the original workspace in the Loop web app → Copy its URL.
      • In Teams, add a Website tab, paste the URL, and name it (e.g., “Recruiting Workspace”).
      • This gives users a stable entry point without creating duplicates.
    2. Pin Workspace Link in Channel
      • Post the original workspace link in the channel and pin the message for quick access.
    3. Governance Controls
      • In Team settings, restrict tab management to owners only.
    • In Teams Admin Center, scope the Loop app to specific users/groups to prevent accidental tab removal or duplication.

This feature was launched fairly recently, in April 2025. Microsoft continues to roll out updates and introduce new capabilities for it. You can follow its development and upcoming features on the Microsoft 365 Roadmap | Microsoft 365

    Hi @Daniel Pervan

Thanks for reaching out in Q&A Forum

Regarding your question about “accidental de‑link" and how to relink in the workspace, let me provide you some short answers beforehand.

    • Link an arbitrary existing Loop workspace when adding the Loop tab in a channel? Not yet. The add‑tab experience in Teams currently creates a channel‑managed Loop workspace that’s bound to that channel’s Microsoft 365 Group. It doesn’t (yet) let you pick a workspace that was created elsewhere in the Loop web app.
    • Re‑link after someone removes the Loop tab (or it becomes de‑linked)? Yes, if it’s a channel‑managed workspace. Re‑adding the Loop tab should offer to pin the previously created workspace for that channel. If you’re not seeing that prompt, see the recovery and workarounds below.
    • Block (or minimize) access to that tab’s settings to prevent accidental disconnects? You can’t hide the Loop tab’s internal settings pane per se, but you can tighten who can add/remove/manage tabs (owner‑only) and scope who’s allowed to add the Loop app at all. You can read about it via this document: Collaborate in real time with workspaces in Teams

To explain what’s supported in Loop Tabs, when you add the Loop app as a tab in a standard Teams channel, it creates a workspace tied to that channel. If the tab is removed, you can usually re-add it and re-pin the existing workspace. However, it's currently not possible to link a workspace created in the Loop web app when adding a tab.

I'd recommend a workaround to recover or avoid workspace de-linking, if a workspace gets de-linked, you can try re-pinning it by adding the Loop tab again in the same channel. Alternatively, you can use a Website tab to display the workspace by copying its URL from the Loop web app. Posting and pinning the workspace link in the channel also provides a reliable fallback. For better governance, you can link pages from the original workspace into the channel-managed one and duplicate them to preserve content.

To reduce the risk of accidental workspace disconnection, restrict tab management permissions to team owners in the Team settings. Additionally, you can limit who can add the Loop app by configuring its availability in the Teams Admin Center to specific users or groups. These steps help prevent misconfiguration and maintain workspace integrity across your Teams environment.

You can read more information about manage your apps and permission by going through these documents:

Manage your apps in the Microsoft Teams admin center - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn

Manage team settings and permissions in Microsoft Teams - Microsoft Support [2f2c-0ab7-b94-48b2]

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this.
