Teams "show when people message me" box needs to be ticked in each time

Hello I have a user who reports that their status message intermittently disappears to their team members. I've been monitoring the user's status and it seems to show up each time I check their name in a chat, but some of their team members will ping my user asking them to remember to update their status as it does not show up on their end. Afterwards my user will tick in the show when people message me tickbox under their settings after which they report their team members will once again be able to see their status.

The "clear status message after" option has been set to never

One symptom seems to be that the user need to continually tick in the "show when people message me" tickbox under set status message after teams closes. At this point is this normal behavior expected for teams? We recall that the box used to always stay ticked in once the setting- "clear status message after" has been set to "never"

This is on new teams and we are on version 1.25.18302

Thank you.

    Dear @RT27

Good day. Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum!

Regarding your issue, may I kindly ask a few questions so I can understand your issue better:

    • Does this error occur on desktop, web, or mobile?
    • Is there any pattern in when the status disappears (e.g., after a specific time or action)?
    • Could you confirm if any changes were made to the Teams policy settings recently, either at the user or organizational level?
    • If could, please take a screenshot of the issue you're experiencing so I can better assist you.

In the meantime, please try these troubleshooting steps:

    1. Microsoft Teams: update to the latest version.
    2. Sign out and log back in: This will refresh your account linking and may resolve the issue.
    3. Clear Teams cache: Cached data can sometimes cause problems. Clear the Teams client cache - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn
    4. Reinstall Teams: If the problem persists, try completely uninstalling and reinstalling it.

    Uninstall first: Uninstall Microsoft Teams

Then reinstall: Download Microsoft Teams Desktop and Mobile Apps | Microsoft Team

Note: If none of the above solutions work, let me know for further investigation. Please note that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need further clarification.

Your understanding and co-operation are highly appreciated. Thank you for your precious time. Have a nice day!
