WIN security Passkey for AMZ account needed suddenly

I'm locked out of my AMZ account, among other purchasing sites because Windows suddenly demands I use a Passkey which I don't have & cannot seem to enter because it runs me around in circles w/ passwords that it won't recognize because I don't have a Passkey. Same loop takes place on my iPhone. Since this is happening, I also cannot receive an email from AMZ w/ a digital code to gain entry into my account. AMZ says contact MS. Am on the verge of lock out from Google, WIN/MS/Outlook due to the number of times I'm trying to convince unknown beings that nothing's changed but these unasked-for roadblocks

    Hi vmw,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Q&A and I understand how disruptive this issue can be.

Based on your description, the most likely cause is Amazon’s recent enforcement of passkey-based sign-in (FIDO2/WebAuthn). When Amazon prioritizes passkeys and your account does not have one properly set up, both Windows and iPhone will prompt for a credential that doesn’t exist, creating the login loop. Multiple failed attempts can also trigger Amazon’s security throttling, which blocks email verification codes temporarily.

Below are a few steps you can try to help further troubleshoot and investigate the cause:

Step 1: Confirm if Amazon Is Forcing Passkey

    • Open an Incognito/Private window on Windows or iPhone and go to the Amazon sign-in page.
    • If it immediately asks for a passkey and does not clearly offer “Password” as an option, this confirms Amazon is preferring passkeys.

    Step 2: Retry Login

    • Use Other sign-in options → Password on Amazon’s login page.
    • If prompted for 2-step verification, append the code to your password (e.g., MyPassword123456).

Step 3: Check and Clean Up on Windows and iPhone

    • For Windows:
    1. Go to Settings → Accounts → Passkeys.
    2. Remove any amazon.com entries.
    3. Clear Amazon cookies in your browser and retry in InPrivate mode.
    4. Ensure Windows 11 is updated (22H2 or later) and your browser is current.

For iPhone, please check the official guidance at: Manage shared password and passkeys

If the issue still persists, please wait at least 24 hours if you’ve had multiple failed attempts (Amazon may have throttled verification emails) then try again or contact Amazon Account Support for further assistance.

Please let me know if you need any further help. I'm here to support.
