I attempted to mute my laptop both through the button and manually setting the volume to 0, however, it takes about 30 seconds for the laptop to actually mute. I updated the drivers, but this issue is still here.

    Hi Mao,

Thanks you for posting in the Microsoft Community. I understand how frustrating it must be to deal with a 30-second delay when trying to mute your laptop, especially after updating your drivers.

This issue might be caused by audio service latency, driver conflicts, or sound enhancements interfering with system performance. Updating drivers is a good start, but let's try a few other things.

First, try restarting the Windows Audio services. Just type services in the Start menu and restart Windows Audio, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder, and RPC. Also, in Device Manager, you could swap to the High Definition Audio Device driver. which has helped reduce lag for some users. Disabling audio enhancements is another useful step open the sound settings (mmsys.cpl), go to your playback device properties, and check Disable all enhancements under the Enhancements tab.

To better assist you, could you let me know your device’s brand and model? Also, does this delay happen across all apps or only in specific ones?

Let me know how it goes. I will be more than happy to assist you.

    Regards,
    Carlo
