Hi @Sue Peters
Thank you for reaching out Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand how concerning it can be to accidentally delete an assignment, especially when students have already begun their work. I’m here to help clarify what can be done.
Currently, Microsoft Teams does not offer a direct way to restore a deleted assignment. However, there are a few steps you can take to recover student work or recreate the assignment:
- Open the Team in Microsoft Teams.
- Go to the General channel (or the channel where the assignment was created).
- Click the Files tab.
- Select More options (⋯) > Open in SharePoint.
- In SharePoint, navigate to. Gear button on the top right next to your avatar->Site contents > Class Files > Assignments.
- Look for a folder named after the deleted assignment. If it exists, it may still contain the students' submitted work.
If you don’t see a folder like “Student Work” or the assignment folder:
- Go to the SharePoint Recycle Bin (bottom left of the SharePoint site navigation bar).
- Look for deleted folders or files related to the assignment.
- Select and Restore them if available.
If the file is nowhere to be found and you don't know if it was uploaded into SharePoint or not, please follow these instructions to contact our Microsoft Support Team, our team can help you recover file that being deleted within 14 days.
For the standard procedure outlined above, Office 365 global administrators may need to contact the Office 365 support team by submitting a service request.
Here’s what your Office 365 Global Admin should do next:
- Submit a Service Request: The Global Admin should create a service request with Microsoft support to get advanced technical assistance and diagnostics. For detailed instructions on how to get support, please refer to Get support - Microsoft 365 admin.
- Find Your Microsoft 365 Admin: If you’re unsure who the Global Admin is within your organization, you can find guidance on locating them here: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support.
- Call Microsoft Support: For additional assistance, use this link to find the appropriate contact number: Global Customer Service phone numbers - Microsoft Support
If you’re an end-user, please coordinate with your IT Admin to handle these steps.
Note: Please understand that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.
I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this.
Thank you for your patience and your understanding. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Best regards,
