Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community! Here’s a step-by-step guide to help your colleague properly detach and reattach the screen of the Surface Book 3,
first is try Using the Detach Button on the Keyboard
Log in to Windows and make sure the Surface Book is powered on.
Locate the Detach Key on the top-right of the keyboard (icon: rectangle with an upward arrow).
Press the Detach Key:
Green light = ready to detach.
Red light = apps using GPU must be closed.
If prompted, close any apps using the dedicated GPU.
Once the light is solid green, gently lift the screen from the keyboard.
then using the Taskbar Icon
Click the Surface Detach icon in the system tray.
Follow prompts to close GPU apps.
Wait for confirmation, then detach the screen.
then using the Surface App
Open the Surface App.
Go to Device > Detach Clipboard.
Confirm detachment and wait for the green light.
