Teams always goes to "Extended View" instead of "Duplicate View (Default)" when I start a meeting.

We currently have a setup where our laptop is connected to the TV (dual display in duplicate mode as default) and whenever we start a meeting, it automatically goes to Extended mode and we need to press windows key + P in order to change it.

How can we change the default to "Duplicate Mode" and how can I prevent it from going to Extended mode.

    Hello @ESLF - Leeian Ibanez

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Before we move forward, may I ask for a bit more detail to better understand your setup?

When you connect your laptop to the TV and start a meeting: Does one screen show the meeting content (like shared screen or video) and does the other screen show something different (like meeting controls or desktop)?

Also, if possible, could you please share a screenshot of your screen setup during a meeting, showing how the “Extended Mode” appears? This will help us better visualize the issue and confirm the behavior.

Now, regarding your discovery, that’s an excellent find and thank you so much for sharing it!

Disabling the “Automatically activate meeting room mode when in a meeting” setting is very likely the direct solution to the issue you’ve been experiencing.

This feature is designed for setups like yours, where a laptop is connected to a TV or external display. Its purpose is to optimize the meeting experience by showing the meeting content on the larger screen (TV), while keeping controls and other elements on the laptop. To do this, Teams forces the system into Extended Display Mode

By turning this feature off, Teams should respect your default Windows display setting, which in your case is Duplicate Mode

This is a great piece of troubleshooting on your part! Please go ahead and test it in your next meeting. If you still experience the same behavior after making this change, feel free to let us know, I’d be happy to work with you to find a solution together.
