Is it possible to remove Auto option from Auto refresh selection in Dashboards?

I've noticed that even if I've set a minimum Auto Refresh option in a Dashboard, the Auto selection within the dropdown will overwrite to 5 seconds if the timespan on the time picker is small enough. For example, in the image below I've set a lowest auto refresh option for this dashboard to 15s. However, when a user chooses the Auto selection and a timespan under 6 hours in the time picker, the auto refresh will default to 5 seconds. Is it possible to set a global minimum value for the Auto selection of auto refresh or remove it altogether?

Hi @Bharath Y P , the auto refresh options can be set per Grafana Dashboard by Selecting the Dashboard > Selecting Settings > General Tab > auto refresh options:

Dashboard Auto Refresh (Dashboard > Settings > General Tab): Lets users define the selectable intervals in the dashboard’s UI dropdown. This can be set individually per dashboard, so each dashboard can offer its own list (e.g., "15s, 30s, 1m"), but does not enforce a lower bound—a user could manually add a very low interval unless globally restricted.

In Grafana, the min_refresh_interval setting in the grafana.ini file acts as a global setting that enforces the smallest allowed auto-refresh interval across all dashboards. For example, if you configure min_refresh_interval = 30s, then any refresh options shorter than 30 seconds (such as 5s or 10s) will be hidden from the dashboard dropdowns, even if they were originally defined in the dashboard’s own settings. This ensures that no user can set overly aggressive refresh rates that might overload your data sources or backend systems.

You can configure the min_refresh_interval in Grafana by editing the grafana.ini file

Locate the grafana.ini file

Edit the [dashboards] section

[dashboards] # Minimum dashboard refresh interval. # Options shorter than this will be removed from the UI. min_refresh_interval = 30s

After saving your changes, restart the Grafana service for them to take effect

Verify in the UI: Open a dashboard and click the refresh interval dropdown.

Hi Bharath, thank you for your response. Unfortunately, since our Grafana workspaces are all Azure Managed Grafana workspaces, we don't have access to the grafana.ini file to make configurations changes like you suggested. Would it be possible to get support in changing this value? Or else, having the value as an option in the configuration tab for the resources in Azure:

Azure Managed Grafana is a fully managed PaaS offering, which means users don’t have access to the underlying grafana.ini file or server-level configuration.

Azure Managed Grafana abstracts away infrastructure management for simplicity and security. That means no access to the file system or ability to modify grafana.ini directly. Only a limited set of settings are exposed in the Azure portal under Settings > Configuration

Since you’re looking to change a value that’s not exposed in the azure portal, the recommendation step is to open a support ticket for a feature or configuration change request.

Could you please scroll down and check if you are able to see create support ticket option as per the screenshot below.

You must have the appropriate access to a subscription in order to create a support request for it. This means you must have the Owner, Contributor, or Support Request Contributor role, or a custom role with Microsoft.Support/*, at the subscription level.

Could you please let us know if you have having above permissions?

If you still don't see the contact support option, I recommend you raise support request Azure Portal → Help + Support → Create a support request https://portal.azure.com/#view/Microsoft_Azure_Support/HelpAndSupportBlade/~/overview

and follow the same prompts and share the request ID with us so, that we can track your request
