Hi Phil Rosenberg,
Thank you for reaching out and explaining the situation so clearly. I understand how frustrating it can be when something that used to work smoothly, like opening your banking app from Edge, suddenly stops behaving as expected on a new device. Let’s work through this together.
On Samsung devices, certain system optimizations and app settings can interfere with how Edge handles links that should open in other apps. This can cause the “Open in app” prompt to appear for just a split second before disappearing, leaving you stuck on the web page instead.
Here are some steps that usually resolve this issue:
1 - Check Edge’s external app setting
- Open Edge → Settings → Site settings → Block opening external apps.
- Make sure this is turned off so Edge can hand off links to other apps.
- If you previously chose “Always open in Edge” for a site, clear that preference:
- Go to Settings → Site settings → Site permissions → All sites.
- Find the site and delete its data.
2 - Adjust Samsung’s battery optimization
Samsung’s “App power management” can close background processes too aggressively:
- Go to Settings → Device care → Battery → App power management.
- Remove Microsoft Edge from Deep sleeping apps.
- Add Edge to Apps that won’t be put to sleep.
If it still doesn’t work
- You can temporarily use another browser to confirm if the issue is Edge-specific.
- Please also report the issue via Edge → Settings → Help and feedback → Send feedback so our team can prioritize a fix.
We know how important it is for your workflow to be seamless, especially when handling payments. Following these steps should restore the “Open in app” option so you can get back to using your banking app without interruptions.
