Canon printer

Bought surface this summer, has a snapdragon processor. Standard Canon drivers did not install for our Canon C3930 printer, compatibility errors. Installed using Microsoft drivers and all worked well.

Last week stopped printing in color when printing from web, only prints in black and white; if printing from gmail or google drive or from a website printing black and white only. If printing anything saved to computer or from Outlook it prints properly in color. There are no 'color', 'greyscale' or 'black & white' option under preferences to edit.

Any suggestions?

Hello Randi. Thanks for posting here in the community. I see that you are having trouble making your canon printer work with your surface device. What is the exact model of the surface device you have?

Basically, your Snapdragon-powered Surface Laptop Go can't use the usual Canon printer drivers (they’re for x86 systems). So, Windows uses a basic Microsoft driver that only does basic printing. That's why you don't see all the color options and web apps often print in black and white. Outlook and saved files print alright because they handle color differently.

Here's what you can do. Double-check print settings. Even if you don't see color options, some apps might have sneaky grayscale settings. Try to switch browsers and try printing from Firefox or Edge instead of Chrome. Try print to PDF first by saving as a PDF, then print from the PDF viewer. You can try network printing. If your printer has Wi-Fi and Canon has an app, that might bypass the driver issue.

Let me know if any of these work. We will try to look for other fixes.

    All the best,

    Rez

If you are using the Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX C3930 printer, please note that it is Mopria‑certified and compatible with Windows on Snapdragon devices for both printing and scanning. This model leverages Microsoft’s inbox drivers, specifically the IPP Class Driver for printing and the eSCL protocol for scanning.

    Thanks!
