After upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11, Teams won't work.

At start up I see screen to login and join session, click login and get message "we ran into an issue"

I've tried every tech article recommendation and still won't work

    Hi @Bill Dugan,

Thank you very much for providing such detailed information. Based on the details you shared about the Microsoft Teams issue not working after upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11 version 24H2, I’d like to provide you with the following information and steps to help resolve the issue:

The new Teams app relies on the Edge WebView2 runtime to render its interface. If the upgrade process disrupts the Edge WebView2 runtime or registry entries, the Teams login window may fail. The login interface of Teams is essentially a web view – if WebView2 is missing or corrupted, clicking “Sign in” may result in nothing happening (or an issue appearing immediately).

Please follow the steps below to address the issue:

You may find that the following steps repeat some of the actions you’ve already taken. However, I recommend going through each step to repair WebView2 (the UI component of Teams), which may help resolve your issue.

Step 1: Completely uninstall Microsoft Teams

Step 2: Clear all Teams cache

Step 3: Delete Teams-related registry keys (if any)

    • Open Registry Editor

    • Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Teams

    • If present, delete the entire Teams folder

Step 4: Check and repair WebView2 (Teams UI component)

    • Download and reinstall Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime from Microsoft’s official site: https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/webview2/

Step 5: Download and reinstall the latest version of Microsoft Teams

After reinstalling, wait a few minutes for Teams to update and reinitialize the necessary components.

If the above steps do not effectively resolve your issue, it may stem from a deeper system-level cause. As a moderator, I lack the tools to investigate this further. In this case, I recommend raising a support ticket with Microsoft’s technical team via: https://admin.microsoft.com. They have the necessary tools to investigate and resolve the issue at its root and will guide you step by step until the problem is fully resolved.

If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to share them with me — I’m here to help you.
