Just upgrade Microsoft 365 Personal to Microsoft 365 Family - - I have initially invited 2 members via the email. (1) Should I uninstall Microsoft 365 Personal to eliminate conflicts, and then install Microsoft Family 365? (2) Does each invitee member have to use their invitee email to establish a Microsoft Account (with a password) (3) Have initially attempted to accept invitation to download Microsoft 365 Family and there have been problems. The account page shows the invitation but does not show that the invitation has been accepted. (4) On the Membership/Device Pages, there appears to be a problem in recognizing all the devices.

    Hello Raymond Thomasson,

Thank you for reaching out to the Q&A Forum!

I understand you’re facing a few different troubles after upgrading from Microsoft 365 Personal to Microsoft 365 Family. Let’s break down your issues and tackle them one by one:

    1. Should You Uninstall Microsoft 365 Personal Before Installing Family?

No, you do not need to uninstall Microsoft 365 Personal. When you upgrade to Microsoft 365 Family, your existing installation is automatically updated to reflect the new subscription benefits.

    2. Do Invitees Need to Use Their Invitation Email to Create a Microsoft Account?

Yes, each invitee must use the exact email address you invited them with to create or sign in to a Microsoft account. This ensures the invitation links correctly to their account and activates their access to the Family subscription. They will need to set a password and complete the account setup if they don’t already have a Microsoft account.

    3. Invitation Accepted but Not Reflected on Account Page

This is a common issue. Here are a few things to check:

    • Ensure the invitee clicked the invitation link and signed in with the correct Microsoft account. Sometimes, it takes up to 2 hours for the system to reflect the change. Refresh the page or log out and back in.
Note: Only once they have selected "Join now" and joined your family group, will your Microsoft 365 Family subscription dashboard update to show "Start sharing" - Troubleshoot sharing a Microsoft 365 subscription
    • If the invitee previously used your account or another Microsoft 365 subscription, it may cause confusion. They should log in with their own account and check their subscription status at account.microsoft.com/services.

    4. Device Recognition Problems on Membership/Device Pages

    This can happen if:

Devices are still signed in under your old Personal subscription.

Invitees installed Office but didn’t sign in with their own Microsoft account.

There’s a delay in syncing device data.

    To resolve:

    • Each user should sign in to Office apps using their own Microsoft account.
    • Visit https://account.microsoft.com/devices to verify which devices are linked.
    • If needed, reinstall Office and ensure the correct account is used during setup.
Hopefully this could help. If you have more questions or if something’s unclear, please feel free to ask, I'm willing to assist further!
