Recover feedback given to students lost after switching from individual to group assessment

I was grading a group of students and I accidentally activated the assess individually option. When I change back to group assessment the feedback had been removed. I wrote that feedback a while ago during a presentation, and I do not remember what I had said. Please, I need it back.

Regards.

    Hi @Álvaro Romo García

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand how important your feedback was, especially since it was written during a presentation and is now difficult to recall. I’m here to help guide you through the steps to try and recover it.

    What happened:

When the assignment was switched from individual assessment back to group assessment, Microsoft Teams updated the feedback structure. This change can cause previously entered individual feedback to become hidden or overwritten.

1/ Try to check the assignment folder in SharePoint

    • Open Microsoft Teams and go to the class where the assignment was created.
    • Select the Files tab, then click Open in SharePoint.
    • Navigate to:  Site contents > Class Files > Assignments > [Assignment Name]
    • Look for any documents or folders related to the assignment. If available, right-click and choose Version History to view or restore earlier versions that may contain your feedback.

2/ You can check the recycle bin in SharePoint

    • In SharePoint, scroll to the bottom-left corner and click Recycle Bin.
    • Look for any deleted feedback files or assignment entries. If found, select and restore them.

3/ You can try to check the audit log (Admin Only)

    • If you are an admin or have access to audit logs, you may be able to trace changes made to the assessment settings and content.
    • This can help confirm when the switch occurred and whether any data was overwritten.

4/ Then contact your IT Administrator

Because your account is managed under your school’s domain, only your school’s IT department has the necessary permissions to help revoke feedback lost associated with your account.

If you don't know who your IT administrator is, I recommend the following:

    • Ask the person who gaves that account for you.
    • Contact your institution's academic affairs office. They should be able to direct you to the right IT contact.

Moreover, if the feedback isn’t visible in SharePoint or Teams, please ask your IT administrator to submit a support request to Microsoft. In many cases, deleted or overwritten content can be recovered within a 14-day window.

For your information that you can concern:

    • Finalize feedback before switching between assessment modes.
    • Use the “Return for revision” option to allow students to resubmit without losing feedback.
    • Periodically export or back up feedback if working in a live or high-stakes environment.

Note: We appreciate your understanding regarding the scope of support available through this forum. As moderators, our role is to provide general guidance and assist with common troubleshooting steps. While we do not have access to internal systems or administrative tools required to resolve account-specific or backend-related issues but we’ll continue doing our best to support you within the scope of our responsibilities.

I hope the information provided proves useful. Please proceed with the outlined steps and let me know whether they resolve the issue. If not, I’ll be glad to continue working with you to find a solution.

Thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this process. Should you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out at any time.

I'm gonna ask the admins what they can do. The first two solutions did not work at all.

Thanks so much for your thorough try.

    Regards,
    Álvaro.
