Hi @My Laptop ,
Thanks for sharing the details.
Your laptop is in BitLocker recovery mode, which happens when Windows detects a security concern (hardware/firmware change) and pauses boot until the correct BitLocker recovery key is entered.
Why it says “couldn’t connect to the network”
- The system may try to fetch the recovery key automatically from your Microsoft account, but at this pre-boot stage, network access isn’t available.
- The Key ID shown on screen is only an identifier - you must enter the full 48-digit recovery key.
How to unlock your laptop
- Personal Microsoft account
- On another device, go to https://aka.ms/myrecoverykey.
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account used on your laptop.
- Find the key whose Key ID matches the one on your screen and enter the 48-digit key.
- Work or school device
- If your laptop is managed by an organization, the recovery key may be stored in Azure Active Directory or on-premises Active Directory.
- Contact your IT administrator to retrieve the correct key.
- If you’re unsure or uncomfortable performing these steps
- Because BitLocker involves encryption and recovery, it can be tricky for someone who isn’t familiar with technical procedures.
- Consider asking a technician or IT professional to help you safely unlock your laptop.
- If the laptop still shows a black screen
- A technician can also help run Windows Recovery Environment → Startup Repair or, if needed, reinstall Windows without risking data loss from incorrect steps.
Important note
- Without the correct 48-digit recovery key, there’s no way to bypass BitLocker encryption.
- Once you regain access, save your recovery key to your Microsoft account to prevent future lockouts.
