Teams for education not creating assignments from existing assignments

I created 2 new classes this morning. When I try to create an assignment from an existing assignment, I get a message that "the destination is being set up". This is true on both the Mac Teams App, the Windows Teams App, and the web-based version of Teams. It will allow me to create new assignments, however. I have closed out Teams, restarted the computer, and cleared the cache. None of these has resolved the issue. I have also waited about 6 hours, and it still does not work. I really need to figure out a fix for this, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi @Steven Asher,

Thank you so much for getting back to us and for sharing these additional details. I’m really sorry to hear that none of the previous steps resolved the issue.

I understand the issue with the “The destination is being set up” message still persists when trying to reuse assignments in newly created Teams classes. Since the usual troubleshooting steps (waiting, clearing cache, switching devices/platforms) haven’t resolved it, here are some deeper insights and next steps:

1/ Use web browser as a workaround

Some users have successfully bypassed the issue by using Teams on the web instead of the desktop or mobile apps. [learn.microsoft.com]

2/ Open a Microsoft Support Ticket

If the issue persists across platforms and time, it may require backend intervention. Please open a support ticket via the Microsoft 365 Admin Center so the engineering team can investigate provisioning logs.

I truly appreciate your patience and understanding while this gets sorted out. Please let me know if there's anything else I can help you with.

Again, I’m really sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and for working with us to get it resolved.

    Hi @Steven Asher,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

The message “the destination is being set up” usually means the new classes are still provisioning in the background. This can affect the ability to reuse assignments. Below are the steps that you can try:

1/ Wait for the full provisioning time:

Newly created classes can take up to 24 hours to fully sync across Microsoft 365 services. Please try to wait until then to see if it works.

    2/ Verify class status:

1- Sign in to Microsoft Teams admin center.

2- Navigate to Teams > Manage teams.

3- Locate the new classes and confirm they show as Active and not archived.User's image

3/ Update Teams and clear cache:

Make sure you’re on the latest version of Teams.

For the most suitable clearing cache steps for your case, please see: Clear the Teams client cache.

4/ Use the “Reuse Assignment” option:

Instead of creating from the assignment creation screen, try follow this: Reuse an assignment in Microsoft Teams

Please understand that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

I'm looking forward to your reply.

Hello. None of the suggestions that you made were able to resolve the issue. In addition since posting this question, I’ve reached out to a number of our other instructors and they are all facing the same issue. It seems to be related to all classes that were started in teams yesterday

The problem may be related, directly or indirectly, to the group's IsExternalResourcesPublished attribute. It must be set to True.

Workaround: Add a guest account (external account).
You can remove this account later..

So creating tasks from existing tasks worked.
